We left Kanab on Hwy 89 to our next spot for 1 night and position us on Byway 12 for the next stopping point. But upon check-in at the Red Canyon Village, we were advised not to drive our 50′ caravan down route 12. Way too dangerous, everyone said. Steve still wanted to go, Chris was very apprehensive. Narrows mountain passes, 14% grades, and possibility of high winds
Nice park for an overnight, with the added benefit of Bryce being a few miles down the road
We kept to the center of these bridges, “just in case”
Such beautiful crimson colored rocks, “hoodoos” as they are known
We heeded the advice and drove around the scenic route, not so different in mileage and again beautiful scenery, this time farmland, cattle, horses and the Rockin’ R Ranch, a dude ranch who were advertising for wannabe cattle ranchers to drive their cattle about 50 miles
They had prices listed at $350 – $800 per person which Chris thought they were paying. Not so fast, you had to pay them and bring your own equipment.
Needless to say, we made it to our next stop, Torrey UT.
