June – October 2023 So Close

Before we left Arkansas we had to change our plans as the next destination had warned that if it was raining, not to come as they experience flooding. So we found a State Park in Eupora MS and drove directly east to Whites Creek Lake Campground.

The GPS was wrong as it guided us to a very narrow lane. We assumed it was wrong so we drove by and took the next turn and drove around a sub-division for 15 minutes. Eventually we drove back to the original street when we saw the sign. Signs always make it easier, but good if they have them coming from both directions, we have to be careful, we have to know that we can get out if we drive in.

We eventually found the campground and the only pull-through site which was ours, of course the only site that was totally uneven. Although there were only 2 other sites occupied who knew who was coming so we couldn’t just pick a spot. We tried leveling as best we could and ended up spending the night on a slant.

Next stop was another Harvest Host, Siluria Brewing Co. in Alabaster AL.

Sitting in the one sunny spot we’d see in days. Unbeknownst to us, there was a train coming and the track was right behind the trees.

The Siluria Brewing Co. was just south of Birmingham AL and ready to host 4 motor homes, so a big parking area

Unusual to see a Harvest Host sign and we appreciate signage. The host came out to greet us when we arrived.

The brewery opened at 4pm and Chris took one for the team and sampled their craft beer.

They didn’t offer food but a food truck arrived at 6pm, Mrs Paulo’s, offering Colombian food. We ordered Arepas, ground maize dough pockets with a savory filling and plantains with a chocolate sauce, delicious.

The barkeep advised the last train came by before 3am. We heard it and the one before it, and it sounded like it was coming into the coach, then the first one of the day at 7am. Plus the addition of the police station next door and the hospital just down the road.

This is life on the road and we’ve become accustomed to these inconveniences. ( we’ll just catch up on sleep tomorrow perhaps.)
